Cardinal Bloom - Live At Soundwell

On a packed sidewalk in downtown Salt Lake City, dedicated fans eagerly awaited the sold-out album release show for Cardinal Bloom. Accompanied by other local favorites Poolhouse and Wilbere, Cardinal Bloom played at The Soundwell to 650 fans. The release show for The Only Place I’ve Ever Known on November 15 was one for the books to be sure.

Opening the show tonight were two phenomenal Utah-based bands Wilbere and Poolhouse. First up was Wilbere, I had personally never seen them before, but they brought a fun energy to the stage and I really enjoyed their set. Wilbere seemed to really energize the crowd and prepare us for what was to come. Next up we had Poolhouse, this band is a personal favorite of mine. Their set was electric and had the crowd jumping and dancing the whole time. They had a perfect mix of released and unreleased songs that kept us all on the edge of our seats and ready for more the whole time.

The anticipation among the crowd while we waited for Cardinal Bloom to take the stage was intense. The audience erupted into cheers and applause as the band took the stage and began to play their first song off of The Only Place I’ve Ever Known, Somewhere to Hide. The setlist tonight comprised the entirety of the album. As the band played, the crowd sang along to every word, and many of us were able to hear our favorite songs live. The band consisting of Joey St John (lead vocals, guitar) Josh Thomas (lead guitar) Nathan Adair (drums) Jacob Silvester (bass) were joined tonight by Liam Lars (keys). The goal of tonight's performance was to capture the complete essence of the album and the guys did a truly phenomenal job. The set ended with performances of To Love Someone and Under The Oak Tree which really rounded out the set. Honestly, it was such an incredible show.

As a long-time fan, it was so incredible to see how far these guys have come. They never fail to put on an amazing show and watching them sell out venues time after time always brings a smile to my face. This show was one that neither the bands who played nor the fans who attended will soon forget.
