DREW ERWIN - CALL MY NAME

Drew Erwin is a singer-songwriter based in Nashville, TN! He’s a smaller artist who has released a few projects in the past couple years, but his current one is what I’m excited the most for! The “Forgive & Forget” EP set a pretty good tone for the talent that this guy has, in terms of his lyricism. Now, according to his social media, he has an album coming later this year; the first single having just released, “Call My Name”.

Overall, it’s a very emotional and raw song; one of those that you can just hear the passion in his voice as he sings. Not only that, but it touches on a topic that could be very sensitive for people, as well as relatable.

With lyrics such as “When you’re falling apart but you leave it unspoken. It’s a little too late, a little too broken.” This slowly leads into what is quite a journey of emotions within the song. Starting the storyline of being with someone whom you’ve loved for so long; but suddenly feeling like that person, or love, has disappeared in front of you. The instrumental side truly follows this as well; staying more lowkey with the guitar riffs, and having minimal effects.

On the other hand, as the chorus hits, that’s when the true emotions arise. The instrumental crescendos into a bit heavier guitar with some bass added in.

“When you call my name, the syllables don’t sound the same….i never thought I’d live to see the day, that your eyes didn’t feel like home

It’s a chorus that both hurts the listeners heart; bringing up memories from their lives, being able to relate to that feeling; yet it also enlightens them , knowing that they’re not alone in that. Other people have also felt those feelings of distance, sadness and realization that you’ve lost someone.

Everyone goes through loss, so when songs like this come across my phone, I feel so comforted. Although I’m sure this is aimed at a romantic relationship, I feel like it could also be for other relationships too; friendships, family, people you consider your close circle. Nothing is harder, emotionally, than feeling like you’ve lost something or someone in your life that you truly value.

I admire Drew for being able to really draw that feeling out and making it an experience that people can share through his music. He’s an outstanding musician and I highly recommend checking out his socials, for future releases! Be sure to check out “Call My Name”!

Drew Erwin is also in a new band called verygently; whom I also recommend you follow and stay updated on! They’re up-and-coming and will be going out on tour with Augustana this April/May!
