Poolhouse - Live at Kilby Court

As I arrived at my favorite local venue, Kilby Court, the sun was coming down and sounds of conversation and laughter filled the air. Fans gathered excitedly for something we all know and love, live music. On Friday, August 2nd, three local artists took the stage in a little venue in an alley of downtown Salt Lake City, Orange Soda, Rally, and Poolhouse put on an incredible show.

Orange Soda kicked off the evening with a lively and energetic performance. Their general vibe was dancy, colorful, and fun. The group's performance was a fantastic way to start the night and get the crowd’s energy up. Next up, we had a performance from the band Rally. Rally has this really infectious, lived in, energy. I thoroughly enjoyed every second of their set. Their indie sound feels like long road trips and summer. I highly recommend both Rally and Orange Soda to anyone looking for new artists.

For the headlining act of the night Poolhouse performed, one of my personal favorite bands. Poolhouse (composed of Jake Buckner, Jonny Steed, Lucas Olivier and John Buckner) is the type of band that I have never seen put on a bad show. Their stage presence is so strong as they perform and then they hit you with awkwards jokes and conversation that make them feel approachable.

The Poolhouse set varied between some of their original classics, such as Blue and Employee of the Month, and some new undeniable hits, like the recently released Yesterday and an unreleased song titled Nevermind. With their newer releases in tow, you can really sense a change in the way Poolhouse carries themselves. I believe their performance this evening was one of the strongest shows I’ve seen from them yet.

I believe that each of the artists I got to see on August 2nd at Kilby Court are ones you should be on the lookout for. Three incredible performers that I personally will be eagerly awaiting to see again. I urge you, the reader, to go out and seek local artists in your area. Supporting local music is the best way to get new talent to the spotlight, and your support is huge everytime. I feel so lucky to get to be so active in my local music scene and get to see incredible artists like Poolhouse in their element like this. If you have the chance to see any of these bands live, you absolutely should.
