POOLHOUSE - SORRY SUCKS
Poolhouse is an indie pop band based out of Utah. Released on January 12, 2024, this song was highly anticipated by fans all around. While the song is just four seconds short of being three minutes long, the song does a lot for the listener. It has those groovy guitar riffs along with smooth vocals. When listening to a song, listeners are either looking for something to dance to or something to relate to. This song does both. ‘Sorry Sucks’ takes you on a journey with the vocalist talking to someone, particularly a love interest. This makes it something we can all relate to in one way or another. This song carries a very relatable title. Saying sorry is hard. People don’t like to do it. The song overall makes listeners feel like they should be in a car with the hood down driving around with friends on a hot summer day, as it very much gives that overall feeling of a coming of age television show that everyone watches.
Compared to their other releases, ‘Sorry Sucks’ seems a lot different. It carries a much more soft rock kind of feel to it, but still is very obviously a Poolhouse song. With different artists, there is most of the time always a signature sound to their music and throughout their songs that influences their style. This band is able to keep that Poolhouse pop-ish vibe relevant and true.
As a first-time listener, myself , I can say for sure Poolhouse has definitely garnered a new fan. When listening I couldn’t help but find myself humming along and enjoying the listen. One part I especially liked is how some of the band's songs begin with a static kind of instrumental to introduce the song. It almost gives it this kind of vintage sound that fans of older music may enjoy.
This song was overall very well received by fans. The comments on the official post announcing the release include the likes of words from fans like “This eats”, “its so good ive been listening allllll day”, and even a couple of comments inquiring for possible tour dates thanks to the fans need to hear the song live. Due to the fact that the band has a very active social media presence and interacts a lot with their fans through their comment section, they are able to see how well received it is by their audience.
As a new fan, I look forward to seeing what the band will continue to put out this upcoming year, whether that is new music, tour dates, or maybe even some music videos. ‘Sorry Sucks’ is the beginning of a new era for Poolhouse and the first single of theirs in 2024.
