Magic City Hippies - Live in Minneapolis

For Midwesterners, winters are harsh and unpredictable. However, the cold did not prevent hundreds of fans from lining up for Magic City Hippies’ Enemies Tour. In Downtown Minneapolis at the historic First Avenue, fans were huddled under the warmth of the heat lamps to score the perfect spot inside.

Accompanied by Mustard Service, this tour celebrates the release of the new album Enemies.

Founded in 2015 from Miami, Florida under the name Robby Hunter Band, the group gained popularity for their blending of funk, R&B, rock, soul and new wave. After releasing an album titled Magic City Hippies, the group realized the name truly embodied their identity. Robby Hunter, Pat Howard and John Coughlin have played together for the last decade, and it shows through their energy and chemistry on stage. The high energy performance kept the crowd on their toes the entire night.

The night kicked off the night with “I Can’t Let You,” and “Enemies,” and instantly had the audience hyped. Much of MCH’s discography has an easy groove that has listeners instantly wanting to get up and dance. I loved the attire of the band matched perfectly with the funky, groovy music that was played all night. My personal favorite song of the night was “BRNT,” because of its heavy bass and hypnotic beats.

MCH played their well-known tunes such as “Limestone” and “Fanfare,” which had the crowd roaring with excitement. Since this tour is the kick-off for their new album, MCH played several new hits.

I’ve been a fan of MCH but never had the opportunity to attend one of their shows. My expectations were over the moon with their performances. From the performance of the band to the crowd’s reactions to the overall energy emulated from the band, every aspect was incredible. My favorite element of the show was seeing how talented each member is. Jake Pinto switched it up from the guitar to the keys to the keytar, while Michael Fatum had the crowd hyped over his skills on the trumpet. MCH’s truly embody what a concert should be- an unforgettable experience and long-lasting memories.

From their infectious energy on the stage to their seamless blend from one song to the next, their live shows are must-see. The show was worth bracing the cold Minnesota weather to get to experience a night with MCH. The Enemies Tour is a little half finished, if you have the opportunity, check out Magic City Hippies and join their neon-beach party.
