The Thing With Feathers - Miniskirt
On March 28th, 2025, Nashville based band ‘The Thing With Feathers’ released a single, Miniskirt, off of their upcoming debut LP. The band, consisting of singer/guitarist Dave Welsch, guitarist Alex Hendricks, and drummer Chris Roussell, have been throwing hit after hit at us for years. Fans (including myself) have been waiting to hear about a larger release, and the group is ready to deliver!
The Thing With Feathers just finished up their nationwide tour opening for Never Ending Fall and The Hails last month. The band is anything but short of energy as they prepare to play four shows promoting their upcoming LP. However, wrapping up their most recent set of shows, the band's release of Miniskirt has us all excited to see what is to come!
Staying true to their roots, a nostalgic, indie rock theme, the track opens with a simple drum beat that introduces us to the tempo of the song. This is followed by a unique and catchy guitar riff, leading us into the rest of the jam! Daves vocals on this track, along with the lyricism make the track fun, catchy and remind me of summer jams with the windows down! I love a track with a “live performance” feel, that transports you somewhere fun and exciting, and this track, in keeping with the rest of the band's discography, does just that.
If you are any sort of interested, tracks from the band's discography that have a similar sound/vibe to Miniskirt could include Waste My Revenge, Don't Break My Heart, and Figure It Out, but their whole discography is worth checking out! They have a wide variety of tracks featuring upbeat jams with some fantastic guitar solos, as well as some cool mellow tracks.
The Thing With Feathers is an incredibly interactive band on and off stage, which makes every release they put out feel much more personal! Often at their shows, the band will even stay after their set to perform an acoustic show outside the venue for devoted fans! It's a beautifully intimate and special experience that artists often cannot achieve anymore. During these smaller acoustic sets, the band will play songs they don't typically play live, while also playing covers and new releases! It's a great experience to get one-on-one with the band and allow them all to showcase their talent! I got to see the group on their last tour opening for Never Ending Fall and The Hails, which are two other groups you’ll enjoy if you are a The Thing With Feathers fan! Seeing how much they care for their fans and their passion for entertainment makes them a “must see” on my list of live artists! While the release of an LP has been highly anticipated by the fan base, the group has so much passion for every track they put out, so it's no doubt the LP will be absolutely worth the wait.
If you are on the hunt for a sick indie rock group to check out, The Thing With Feathers will definitely catch your ear. The band is embarking on four shows this coming June of 2025, in four cities. You can catch The Thing With Feathers in Davenport on June 18th, Chicago on the 19th, Cleveland on the 20th, and Columbus on the 21st. This set of headline dates will give us an introduction into this new era for the group, and will likely feature the bands newest track Miniskirt. With this new single out, and an LP on the way, this run of dates will absolutely be worth your while.
