ALIAH SHEFFIELD CONFERENCE

Music can be the biggest motivator to just keep pushing, no matter what life throws at you. Aliah Sheffield encompasses this feeling in her day-to-day life, and in her music. Her EP, titled “These Songs Are For Anyone Sick Of Earth”, is incredibly retrospective and was released after her single, “Earth Is Ghetto”, became very successful. “Earth is Ghetto” perfectly expresses the many struggles present in today’s society. There is such a stark contrast in the beautiful and ugly parts of humanity that she captures so well.

I had the opportunity to attend her press conference through UMG’s °1824. We learned all about her story, her songwriting, and her inspirations. Aliah’s creative journey is incredibly real, and her energy is unmatched.

There are so many connections in her visual story lines in the music videos for her songs that are really interesting to point out. Aliah expresses that all the details and imagery are open to the listener’s interpretation. “I like to give people the chance to make up their own minds about what it means.” She states.

Aliah’s imagery and realness continues as she released her EP on June 9th. Her singles “Boo Boo The Fool”, and “Earth Is Ghetto” made the tracklist. Even so, the track that stands out to me the most on the EP is “Never Drinking Again”. To me, it serves as a letter to oneself, promising to never drink again, but in the bridge it states “It’s easier to drown when you’re always coming down” which contradicts the statement in the chorus. These raw conversations about the human experience are needed in today’s society.

Aliah Sheffield is making real moves in the world of R&B, and in the music industry. Her EP is a sum of the human experience, trying to survive in this chaotic world. She is definitely an artist to keep your eyes on as she catches more attention and brings more realness into the industry.
