GRETA VAN FLEET - FAREWELL FOR NOW
The continuously growing, and accomplishing, rock band Greta Van Fleet released their third single from their upcoming album, Starcatcher, on June 9th. They performed this third single, “Farewell For Now” at the Sacramento show in March, the last show of the Dreams in Gold tour.
“In Farewell For Now we express the sentiment of our longing to stay on stage and savor the magic created by the audience- music phenomena. But we must pack up and go to the next place to do it all over again; as always, we’ll be back soon.”, Sam Kiszka stated.
As stated by Sam K, this song is an ode to the fans showing how the band themselves also enjoy performing at their concerts. They express their love and joy of performing and doing it over and over again, but also their sadness of having to leave the stage every time. “And I wish we all could stay, but I bid you a farewell, and it means the world to play, but I bid you a farewell” The chorus shows their fans that post concert depression doesn’t just hit hard for the fans, it hits for the performers as well.
The outro of the song,“We gathered here tonight, did it up just right, and it's all for you” really sticks out. These lines show how the members of Greta Van Fleet are just as much performers as they are musicians. The band shows how aware they are that the audience and the fans are captivated by their music. When Sam Kiszka says the audience creates magic, it’s obvious they are aware and really feed off of the audience's love and appreciation for their art.
While this song is already emotionally special, what makes this track particularly unique from most of their other records is that Josh Kiszka (vocals), Jake Kiszka (guitar), Sam Kiszka (bass/keys), and Daniel Wagner (drums) are all dedicating their ethereal vocals in this piece.
This song shows the band’s effortless musicianship using their instruments to manifest the emotion they put into the tune. They show us how much care and love they put into their art and how much their fans affect them as artists.
