No Such Animal - New American Cyborg
No Such Animal is an alternative rock band based out of Utah. The band is composed of Finn Morrison (Vox), Max Miller (Drums), Seth Jensen (Bass), Cole Harris (Guitar), and Ella Morrison (Keys). With a career starting off as playing at open mic nights at local Utah venues has become headlining shows with continuous released music. Currently, the band has multiple show dates planned with the upcoming being on October 7 at Craftober Fest. On their website, you can find multiple news articles, stating that they are amazing to watch live. And based off of their most recent release, I imagine that to be true. On September 29, 2023, No Such Animal released their most recent single titled, “New American Cyborg”. Below is a review of the new song and how the band’s instrumentals and Morrison's mature gravely voice truly contribute to their alternative rock image.
The song begins with a very catchy riff on guitar with drums quickly being added. The vocals then kick in singing incredibly catchy lyrics. You can practically feel a live audience beginning to move. Whether it’s head banging, moshing or just dancing. No one should stand still for this song. During the chorus of this song, Morrison shows much more versatility with his voice. He is so much more than a gravely rock vocalist. He has a melodic and enchanting voice as well. Towards the end of the song, there is a big instrumental breakdown that leaves the listeners wanting more. With writing credits going towards lead vocalist, Finn Morrison, this song shows to be great company to other alternative rock songs.
In my personal opinion, I really really enjoyed this song! I first listened to it after a very long and stressful day, which was definitely the most perfect condition to listen to. This song holds the perfect mixture of musical composition, as well as a feeling that makes the listeners feel like a badass. After listening to “New American Cyborg”, I went down the rabbit hole of listening to their other releases and it’s safe to say No Such Animal certainly has that alternative rock genre feel they fall under. After listening to a few of their songs, I would certainly consider myself a fan, as well as somebody who would like to see them live one day. Congratulations and well done to “No Such Animal” on their most recent release!
