On October 7th, 2023, down a little alleyway in Salt Lake City, Utah, an electric energy filled the air. Local icons future.exboyfriend took the stage at the fan favorite venue, Kilby Court, for their last Salt Lake City show of the year before leaving on tour with The Moss.
The band consisting of Tyler Harris (lead vocals/guitar/synth), Isaac Paul (bass), Josh Arena (drums), and new addition Ian Kirby (keys/harmonies), opened the show with a new song called Missing Out before moving into more well known songs. A bolder choice, but one that seems to have paid off, grasping the audience's attention as fans tried to sink in the lyrics. With the energy picking up throughout the set, the band took a few more opportunities to play unreleased songs such as Semi-Pro and Ego, that bring a familiar sound with a new bolder twist to the band’s discography that I know fans will love upon release.
future.exboyfriend has an incredible knack for building a fast connection with their crowds, with light humor and just a general love for their music and one another. The band likes to banter and tell jokes on stage, and seem to find joy with the audience playing along. The band is easy to connect with because of their phenomenal stage presence. They also carry catchy lyrics that make any newcomers to the show feel like long time fans, singing along to fun energetic beats all night long.
If you are in the market for a new favorite, high-energy band with a unique sound, I would highly recommend checking out future.exboyfriend. Make sure to catch these incredible Utah locals on tour with The Moss this fall!
