Train, accompanied by special guest Parmalee, brought their vibrant energy and musical prowess to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, for the penultimate show of their tour. It was evident from the start that both bands were thrilled to be back in Iowa, and their enthusiasm was contagious, setting the stage for an unforgettable night of music.
Parmalee took the stage first and wasted no time in getting the crowd pumped up. They delivered a fantastic mix of original songs and covers that had the audience dancing and singing along. Their infectious energy warmed up the crowd, making them eager for Train's performance.
As the anticipation in the air reached its peak, Train kicked off their set with the song "Drink Up." The crowd responded enthusiastically, raising their drinks high and dancing to the infectious rhythm. Frontman Pat Monahan's charismatic presence immediately connected with the audience, creating an electric atmosphere in the venue.
During the second song of the night, Monahan announced that their guitarist, Taylor Locke, hails from Des Moines, Iowa. To show his appreciation for his home state, Monahan distributed free t-shirts to lucky members of the audience. He even donned one of these shirts himself, proudly wearing it throughout the song, which he later had the entire band sign. It was a heartwarming gesture that resonated with the crowd.
Train's setlist was nothing short of impressive, spanning their entire career with a mix of old favorites and newer tracks. The highlight of the night was their exceptional cover of "Hotel California." This rendition concluded with a surprise twist, as Monahan took to the drums while their drummer joined the guitarists and bassist with his own guitar. It was a mesmerizing showcase of the band's diverse talents and musical prowess, leaving the audience in awe.
The night culminated with one of Train's most beloved songs, "Drops of Jupiter." Not a single member of the audience remained silent as they sang their hearts out in unison. The emotional connection between the band and the crowd was palpable, creating a truly magical moment.
Train definitely proved that they know how to put on a remarkable show. Their energy, musicality, and heartfelt connection with the audience made for an unforgettable night. As the band bid farewell and left the stage, I managed to catch my first-ever guitar pick, a keepsake that will remind me of this extraordinary evening forever.
