THRU IT ALL - EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

In a state where country music has reigned supreme for years, the Oklahoma band Thru It All brought their take on alternative rock to Lincoln, Nebraska. I had the pleasure of speaking with band members Andrew Lindroth (drums), Daniel Dew (guitar and vocals), and Nick Jordan (lead vocalist) before their Saturday night show at the 1867 bar.

From influences ranging from hip-hop artist Mac Miller to other alternative rock bands like Yellowcard, Thru It All creates a unique sound that marries these varying genres in a ravishing way. Jordan elaborates, “It’s about carving your own path in a world that tries to mold you into what they want. To be a good artist you have to be a little delusional, you have to believe anything is possible at any time and to keep a child-like wonder.” Thru It All’s most recent album Chaos Zen is a testament to this feeling of a rebellious youth.

The fast, upbeat melodies create a transcendent atmosphere where lyrics make you feel like head banging with friends. The hip-hop influenced title track ‘chaos zen’ was created entirely in one night. Guitarist Daniel Dew added that Thru It All’s writing process is “a massive creative outburst”. The rest of the album was produced in a cabin that was rented for three days and nights. Lindroth enthusiastically explains, “We locked ourselves up there and did not leave till the record was complete. Our favorites to produce were definitely ‘halfway anywhere’, ‘chaos zen’, and ‘elevator’.”

Prior to the show, the band told me about their favorite songs to play live. Dew, Jordan, and Lindroth expressed different songs ranging from newer songs such as ‘chaos zen’ to older songs like ‘sundress’. Despite their differences Dew’s punchy, bright guitar tone mixed with Lindroth’s punk influence on the drums contrasting with Jordan’s melodic voice entranced Lincoln’s crowd with a thoroughly entertaining performance Saturday night.

While drummer Andrew Lindroth’s mobility was limited due to a broken knuckle sustained right before the tour, he was able to overcome the pain and provide an exhilarating performance. Dew emphasized the importance of perseverance saying, “Don't ever give up on your dream, surround yourself with people who will support you, and move forward.” One thing is for certain, the passion and dedication that Thru It All has for its music has made them an unstoppable force in the alternative rock scene.

If Thru It All is coming to a city near you on their North American 2024 Tour, I highly recommend checking a show out. Their shows are dynamic, powerful, and one of a kind. You will not be disappointed as it will leave a lasting impression.

Stay tuned for upcoming singles that will drop in the upcoming months.
