UPSAHL - LIVE AT SOUNDWELL

UPSAHL made her grand return to Salt Lake on October 6th at Soundwell. Back in June, I was asked to go out to The Complex to photograph UPSAHL as she opened for Madison Beer on The Spinnin’ Tour, and I was instantly hooked. I was beyond ecstatic to be reinvented out this past week to shoot her headlining stop in Utah on her Melt Me Down Tour!

UPSAHL was joined by openers Zoe Ko and Conor Burns. Similar fashion to every show I attend, I did not listen to the openers before the night came. I like to be surprised by the artists, get a real opinion formulated with their talent, vibe, and their stage presence. I was pleasantly surprised by both, but most definitely Zoe Ko’s set. Her spunky stage presence was an amazing way to kick off the night. Hailing from NYC (woo! follow New Yorker!), Ko has established a name in the pop rock genre. She performed songs such as ‘Eat’, ‘Kiss My (Ah)’, and a fun cover of ‘Hollaback Girl’ by Gwen Stefani!

Conor Burns was also a nice surprise to enjoy after Ko’s set. Burns’ music is definitely an alternative vibe, and his stage presence was a blast! He continued to keep up the energy brought by Zoe before him, allowing for a vibrant vibe to carry through to UPSAHL’s own set. He sang songs ‘patterns’, ‘vogue’, and two unreleased songs, such as ‘Left Me In The Cold’. I am a big fan of alternative music, and his entire vibe reeled me in. Both openers will come highly recommended from me for anyone looking for new music!

UPSAHL, as expected, finished off the show with an immaculate set. Since seeing her in June, I was excited to see how her own headlining set would go and I was far form disappointed. She kicked off her set with one of her latest releases ‘Tears on the dancefloor’, followed by ‘NO HANDS’, sitting on a chair center stage. Her interaction with the crowd is always something I love to see. Along with her own releases like ‘IDFWFEELINGS’, ‘All My Friends Are Rich’, she also included covers of ‘Heads Will Roll’ by Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and ‘Good in Bed’ by Dua Lipa! She was surrounded by blue and pink lighting for most of her set, and I felt as though it was the perfect vibe for her (even though those are the hardest lighting choices to edit!) and made for a truly spectacular vibe. I thoroughly enjoyed her set, and I was beyond excited to see more from her than her shorter opening set I was privileged to see back in June.

If you don’t listen already, UPSAHL is a highly recommended artist from me! Her fun, alternative music never fails to bump up any mood, and make you want to dance as you sing along. If she’s ever passing through your city on tour, buy that ticket! Her stage presence continues to be one of the best I’ve seen, always making sure to interact with the crowd before her and keeping up a high energy night!
