LOOK AT THE TIME - SAWYER HILL

Small-time musician Sawyer Hill has been a part of the scene for years now, traveling in and around the southern USA with his band at bars and smaller venues from the age of fifteen; but he just recently began to independently launch his own music in November of 2022 with his debut single Your Scene.

Hill possesses a fresher sound that is unique to not only the universe of modern rock and pop but also to music in general. Vocally, he appears to be in the bass range and this has made him an idiosyncratic artist due to the lack of such low singing in today’s songs. He has described his work as “alternative rock with a progressive twist. It’s sounds you’re familiar with but with a delivery and composition you haven’t heard before” on his very own site.

On June 28th, just seven months after the release of Your Scene, Hill dropped Look At The Time on all streaming platforms. Before this, the song blew up on Tiktok when a live clip went viral, urging Hill to get in the studio and make it a full-fledged piece.

Containing an easy-going instrumental vibe that is reminiscent of styles from current artists such as Peach Pit, The Strokes, and Modest Mouse; Look At The Time is arguably the most powerful song from Hill thus far. Just with the gloomy guitar tones, the straightforward drum beats, and the undeniably stirring vocals, the song manages to draw out melancholic feelings from those lucky enough to listen.

Aside from the outstanding sound work within Look At The Time, the writing is also vastly palatial. A line in particular that caused the song to increase in popularity says “Cause when you say that I’m the only one, did you mean that I’m the closest one around?” (Chorus). This obviously has tugged at the heartstrings of Hill’s growing fanbase but another, more underrated, verse in the song states “It’s all too real when the love you feel is forgot. When another lays in the bed you made and your best days are forgotten. Is he all you need? Do you look at him the same way you looked at me?” (Verse 1).

It is unquestionable that the young Arkansas-native musician (and band) is a force to be reckoned with despite the fact he’s just kicked off; it wouldn’t be shocking in the slightest if down the road this kid was selling out arenas and headlining huge festivals because of the artistry he’s put out. Fans are eager to see what Sawyer Hill has coming next in this new chapter of music, adventure, and more.
