Dayglow - Live in SLC

On Wednesday, November 6, 2024, I arrived at a packed Union Event Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. The cause for all the commotion? Indie pop artist Dayglow, accompanied by Australian band Teenage Dads, brought Dayglow: The Tour into town. As I arrived at the venue, fans were running to get in line for what was sure to be a phenomenal show.

The show tonight was opened by the Australian alternative/indie band, Teenage Dads. This band brought such a fun energy to the show, brilliantly setting the stage for Dayglow. As a first-time listener of the band, I quite enjoyed the set. I thought it was really cool that in their stage setup, the band was in a straight line so everyone felt equal to each other and we the viewers got to see all of the performers working so hard.  The band has such a great vibe as they dance and sing around the stage. Teenage Dads is a band that I truly look forward to listening to more of and catching again next time they are in town.

As someone who has had the pleasure of seeing Dayglow before, my first viewing being earlier this year at Salt Lake’s own Kilby Block Party, I had high expectations going into this show. I have to say that I was thoroughly impressed with the entire show. From the actual performance of the band to the lighting cues to the set design on stage, every element of this show was so beautiful and pleasing.

Dayglow’s set began with screaming fans and a dark stage with slow flashing backlit lighting. Sloan Struble, Mr. Glow himself started his set with a hauntingly beautiful rendition of his song Junior Varsity which slowly transformed into one of his newer releases Broken Bones. As the lights finally came up, an overwhelming, electric energy overcame The Union Event Center. The energy between Dayglow and their fans was harmonious.

The setlist for Dayglow: The Tour is a wonderful time capsule of everything we have seen from the artist thus far. With many songs from his career-changing album Fuzzybrain (2018), Harmony House (2021), People in Motion (2022) and his new self-titled album Dayglow (2024). This show pays tribute to every step of Stuble’s incredible career and is a real treat for longtime fans.

As our night with Dayglow came to an end, fans were still screaming and dancing to the songs played throughout the evening. I have to say that this was one of my favorite shows I have had the pleasure of attending this year, due in no small part to the crowd I was lucky enough to be a part of. This show was a great example of how live music brings people together and how much love and connection we can find through it. Dayglow puts on an insane show and draws in some of the most energetic and wonderful crowds you could imagine. I am truly looking forward to catching Dayglow again on their next tour and listening to all new releases until then.
