NATIVE STATE - DOWN AND OUT

Alternative rock band Native State has just dropped not one but two singles, just four months after their live album SEX ROCK LIVE. The group of four bestfriends that take inspiration from preceding artists such as Jimi Hendrix, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, KISS, and Arctic Monkeys consists of Logan Cozart on vocals, Vic McClintock on guitar, Everett Remstedt on bass, and Frankie Johnson on the drumkit. Native State has only been officially releasing music under the band’s name for roughly four years, their first single Your Fool being released in July of 2019 but the group has already achieved small-town fame from their electrifying live performances.

Down and Out, the one of two singles Native State dropped on the twenty sixth, is fast paced and overflowing with energy. The band has described that their goal is to get people moving and out of their seats and Down and Out accomplishes that undoubtedly. The song’s vibe sounds like it would perfectly fit into an angsty coming of age film; any band’s dream, really.

With the help of Logan Cozart’s vocals, that truly are fit for rock and roll, Down and Out gets the heart beating and the epinephrine flowing in no time. Alongside Cozart’s impeccable singing, Vic McClinktock’s fresh style on guitar along with Everett Remstedt’s quick basslines and Frankie Johnson’s spirited nature on the kit makes the song perfect in complexion. The most admirable aspect of the entire piece, however, is the inclusion of raw vocals at the two minute and forty eight second mark. It is reminiscent of audio engineering techniques used in early 2010s rock music with bands such as The Fratellis, The All American Rejects, Cage The Elephant, and several others. This makes the piece nostalgic, especially to younger crowds around the bandmembers’ ages.

After this double single release, Native State is opening for rap-rock group Discrepancies in their hometown of St. Louis, Missouri on June 2nd. After this, the band’s plans are unknown but they are more than excited to be booked for future gigs.
